Wisdom of my People by Olanike Olaniyan is an amazing book totally different from my numerous reads. It is a book full of timeless, cultural  and family oriented values, ethics and principles you can't get anywhere. I can say that when  imbibed and applied  to your life and taught to your children especially as an immigrant in any nation of the earth, it will give you that "life's cheat sheet", that pride in your ancestry to operate above degradatory, derogatory and offensive circumstances you may come across. This book is also spiced up with proverbs which in most part of Africa is the "oil with which the "yam" of the words of wisdom, warning, teaching etc is eaten. Our ancestors use this wisdom woven words a lot to lace or spice  their utterances and conversations. It gives a deep meaning which makes someone to have a deeper reflection on what's being said. Nike used a lot of it and this makes the reader to have a deep reflection on what is written. There is also a good collection of various proverbs included. In total it's a great read, an excellent book.

When I saw this post about you becoming an author I was intrigued and decided to buy your book. I found it an interesting and stimulating read which I’m sure will be of worth to a wide audience. I’m not sure if it was your intention however I was left feeling that I had a better understanding of you as a person in a very positive way. I have to admit to smiling at the prelude to your South African filming trip.

I have now passed the book on to my daughter (aged 17) as I think it woukd be beneficial for her to read. Anyway, congrats at having the courage and determination to undertake this project, a success in my opinion.

As an African in the diaspora raising children with no memories of Africa, this really resonates. I know who I am because of a strong sense of identity that I was raised with. This book has motivated me to be more intentional in forging the right sense of identity in my children.

The book is one that will be tough to put down once you start reading. Took me down memory lane, the proverbs brought back a sense of nostalgia.
