Strengthen your Wings

A bird perched on a twig. It comfortably rests on that flustering branch seemly without a care in the world. The wind picks up a little and the twig wobbles, at first a little then quite a lot.

Yet, the bird stays put, totally unperturbed by all the flustering and wobbling going on with it’s perch, in fact it takes it time to sing a little, peck at its breast a little and then settle a little more firmly.

What peace in the midst of such uncertainty, how calm! How totally unperturbed.

Then I recall the saying “a bird sitting in a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking because its trust is not in the branch but in its own wings”.  And that set me thinking, where is my trust? And I dare ask, where is yours? In your job? Your family or friends or is it in the government?

Are you like most people pumping all your resources into strengthening the brand in the hope it will withstand the pummelling or are you putting some resources towards strengthening your “wings”?

This year alone, thousands have lost their jobs from the (in)famous tech layoffs and traditionally safe employers like the government have laid off thousands as well. If there is a time to strengthen your “wings”, or invest in yourself, it is now. The good news is, there has never been a better time to create a side hustle, a profitable investment or build a business like now.

See some examples here from other sites

and there are so many more online:

What skills do you have? What hobbies are you presently investing so much time in unprofitably? Cooking? Cleaning? Knitting? Teaching? Coaching? Decorating? Sewing? Shopping? Proofreading? Interior Design? Driving? Content Creation, Curating News Item? Make Up? The list can be endless.

You can build a side gig from that and scale that into a brand in a relatively short time. Don’t wait until your cloth line breaks, invest in strengthening your wings today so like that bird, you can soar if it breaks or in the meantime, remain unperturbed no matter what wind is blowing.
